Yuengling's Virginia Connection and Brewery History
Many guests are surprised to learn that Yuengling®—America's Oldest Brewery, established in 1829—has its own chapter in Virginia history.
From 1866 to 1878, David G. Yuengling, Jr. owned and operated the James River Steam Brewery on the banks of the James River in Richmond, Virginia. During this period, the brewery became an important part of Richmond's post-Civil War brewing industry before Yuengling eventually returned to New York.
Today, the Yuengling name remains synonymous with American brewing tradition, making it the perfect inspiration for our Yuengling Retro Arcade Game Room—a place where guests can relax with a favorite beverage, enjoy classic arcade games, listen to vintage vinyl records, and celebrate the nostalgia of decades past.
A Rich American Heritage
Since 1829, Yuengling® Brewery has brewed beer from its original home in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, earning its place as America's Oldest Brewery.
Pottsville is also known as the home of the legendary Pottsville Maroons, one of the NFL's early powerhouse teams whose memorable 1925 championship controversy remains part of professional football history. The team produced three Pro Football Hall of Famers and continues to be celebrated by football fans today.
